Most night shift care work feels isolated and thankless. You're alone in the dark, watching the clock, doing the bare minimum. This role is different: you'll be part of a small, tight-knit team supporting nine women who genuinely need you to spot the early warning signs that could save their lives. This is the kind of work that actually matters

You'll work 21:00 to 08:30, five nights a week, in a purpose-built female residential home where mental health support isn't an afterthought - it's everything. The women here have complex needs around self-harm and suicide ideation. Your job is to be present, alert and calm; to know their relapse prevention plans inside out; to pick up on the subtle triggers only someone who truly watches can catch. That awareness, that vigilance, genuinely prevents crises

This home is in Birchgrove, a real community where the people you support go bowling, to the cinema, on holidays, cooking together, out for meals. They have lives and hobbies and dreams. Your role is to keep them safe so they can live those lives to the full. You work independently through the night, but you're never truly alone - there's a dedicated, compassionate team behind you who genuinely care about doing this work well

The provider invests in you. They'll pay for your Enhanced DBS check and any renewals. They offer QCF qualifications so you can grow and move into supervisor or manager roles if you want to. Your pay starts at £14.05-£14.75 per hour, depending on your qualifications, with a transparent pay scale that recognises what you bring. You get 5.6 weeks of annual leave including bank holidays, a NEST pension where they match up to 3% of your contributions, and access to Circle - a whole platform of counselling, wellbeing support and high street discounts so you can actually look after yourself while you're looking after others

What you will be doing

  • Monitor the nine women during night hours, staying alert to changes in their wellbeing and any signs of distress or relapse
  • Respond calmly and safely to emergencies, incidents or crisis situations, using the mental health relapse prevention plans you'll know in depth
  • Provide support with night-time routines and care needs, including assisting with personal care and domestic tasks as required
  • Keep detailed, accurate records of incidents, observations and any changes in condition so the day team has the full picture
  • Maintain a calm, secure and peaceful environment throughout the night shift, working independently but with the team's support available when you need it

Why you will love working here

  • Pay of £14.05-£14.75 per hour for 35 hours a week, with transparent recognition for your qualifications and experience
  • 5.6 weeks of annual leave including 8 public holidays, so you actually get proper time to rest and live your life
  • Full Enhanced DBS check paid for by the home, with any future renewals covered too
  • QCF qualifications and real career development support, opening doors to supervisor and management roles
  • Access to Circle - counselling, wellbeing advice, exercise guidance and discounts on everyday purchases - plus a Blue Light card for Health and Social Care savings. Pension contributions matched up to 3%, and a £500 referral bonus if you know someone brilliant

Is this you?

  • You're female, over 18 (this is a genuine occupational requirement for the people we support)
  • You're calm under pressure, reliable and responsible - the kind of person who notices small things and acts on them
  • You have a real capacity for compassion and patience, especially with people whose mental health is fragile and complex
  • You're happy working independently through the night, but you're also a team player who communicates clearly with colleagues before and after your shifts
  • You're interested in understanding mental health, relapse prevention and early warning signs - and you're willing to learn and develop
