Most overnight care work feels isolating: you're alone, underpaid, and nobody seems to notice the difference you make. This role is different. You'll work independently through the night in a home where your presence genuinely matters, supporting adults who need someone reliable and calm when the world is quiet

Working waking nights means you get to see people at their most vulnerable and real. You'll be the steady presence in the room when someone needs reassurance at 3am, when a routine needs adjusting, or when an incident needs careful handling. It's demanding work, but the impact is immediate and profound: you're not just monitoring, you're creating safety and peace when it matters most

This home supports 14 adults with mental health needs, some with learning disabilities or dual diagnosis. That means you'll encounter complexity and real human need, not routine tasks. You'll work with a team that values your judgment, your vigilance, and your ability to think clearly under pressure. Your documentation and incident reporting actually shapes how people are supported during the day

The provider invests in people who stay. You'll get genuine career development through QCF qualifications, a Real Living Wage that reflects your experience, and benefits that actually support your life: five and a half weeks' annual leave, a matched pension up to 3%, an Employee Assistance Programme you can genuinely use, and Circle wellbeing access with counselling, exercise advice and everyday savings

What you will be doing

  • Monitoring individuals during the night, staying alert and present to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Providing practical support when needed: assisting with night-time care routines, responding to requests, and helping people feel calm and supported
  • Responding swiftly and calmly to any emergencies or incidents that arise, with clear thinking and composure
  • Maintaining a peaceful, secure environment through the night so people can rest well
  • Recording incidents, changes in condition, and observations accurately, so the daytime team can build on your insights
  • Managing light domestic tasks as required: tidying and cleaning communal areas to keep the home welcoming

Why you will love working here

  • £14.05 to £14.75 per hour, paid as a Real Living Wage Employer with transparent pay scales that recognise your qualifications and experience
  • 35 hours per week, waking night shifts, with 5.6 weeks' annual leave including 8 public holidays so you actually get rest
  • Enhanced DBS check fully paid by the provider, so no costs to you
  • Real career development: QCF qualifications funded, opening doors to progression in care and support
  • Wellbeing support that works: Employee Assistance Programme (confidential and free), Circle hub with counselling and exercise advice, matched pension up to 3%, Cycle to Work scheme, Blue Light Card discounts, and long service recognition
  • Paid comprehensive induction so you start confident and supported

Is this you?

  • You're female and over 18 (this is a genuine occupational requirement for the people we support)
  • You're calm under pressure, reliable, and able to work independently through a full night shift without losing focus
  • You take responsibility seriously: accurate record-keeping and attention to detail matter to you
  • You're genuinely interested in mental health support and working with people whose needs are complex, not simple
  • You have or are willing to work towards relevant care qualifications (the provider will support you)
