Most night shifts in care feel like you're just keeping the lights on until morning. This role is different: you'll be the steady, caring presence that helps young people settle into bed safely, and you'll genuinely shape how they experience each night. If you're drawn to work that actually matters, where your warmth and attention make a real difference to children who need it, this is the job that could change everything
Picture this: you arrive for your night shift, hand over with the day team, then settle down with the young people in your care. You help them wind down, support them through their bedtime routine, and as they drift off to sleep, the last thing they experience is your calm presence and a genuine goodnight. That moment of security you give them ripples through their whole night and into the next day. It's small, it's quiet, and it's profound
The home runs like a proper family. Your team knows each other deeply, supports each other through the shift, and genuinely enjoys each other's company. There's warmth here, real warmth. The children aren't defined by their diagnosis or their needs; they're seen as individuals with their own personalities, their own strengths, their own stories. You're part of giving them the security and love they deserve to thrive
Training here is genuinely exceptional. You'll work towards your Level 3 Diploma, and the range of topics covered is wider than anywhere else in the sector. You'll get mandatory training, refresher courses, and the chance to take on additional qualifications like young people's mental health and safeguarding. This isn't a box-ticking place; they invest properly in your development because they know it makes you better at your job
The rota works with real life. Night shifts suit people with daytime commitments, young families, partners on different schedules. You'll know your nights in advance, you'll be part of a tight team you actually look forward to seeing, and you'll go home knowing you've genuinely helped someone. People stay in this job because they love it, not because they're stuck
What you will be doing
- Arrive for your night shift, receive handover from day staff, and take full responsibility for the young people in the home through the evening and night
- Support young people through their bedtime routine, helping them settle calmly and creating the safe, positive end to their day that sets them up for a good night's sleep
- As shift leader, make sure your team has all the information they need about the young people, any concerns or changes, and ensure the home is clean, tidy and ready for the morning
- Respond calmly and skilfully to any needs that arise during the night, whether that's settling anxieties, managing behaviour, or providing practical support
- Complete essential paperwork and ensure packed lunches are ready for school the next day, keeping the practical side of the home running smoothly
Why you will love working here
- A rota that works with real life: night shifts suit people with daytime commitments and family responsibilities, and you'll know your shifts well in advance
- Proper training investment: you'll work towards your Level 3 Diploma and beyond, with access to in-depth courses on everything from autism to mental health, all far exceeding what most providers offer
- A real team culture: you'll work with people who genuinely support each other, who know the young people deeply, and who actually enjoy coming in together
- The chance to make a tangible difference to vulnerable young people every single shift, and to build real relationships that matter
- A provider committed to seeing each child as an individual and treating them with the warmth, love and security they deserve
Is this you?
- You're naturally warm and 'mothering' (or 'fathering'), someone who genuinely enjoys supporting young people and finds real satisfaction in helping them feel safe and cared for
- You're reliable, organised and calm under pressure; night shifts need someone steady who can respond thoughtfully to whatever comes up
- You're willing to learn and develop; ideally you have or are working towards Level 3 childcare qualifications, or you're committed to getting them with our support
- You have experience working with children or young people, ideally in a residential or care setting, though we're open to people bringing transferable skills from other caring roles
- You can work waking nights on a rota basis and you're genuinely interested in the children's wellbeing and development, not just clocking in for a payslip
