Most night shifts feel like you're just clocking hours in the dark. This isn't that. We're looking for a waking night worker who genuinely wants to be present for the young people in our care - building real relationships, spotting what matters, and knowing every shift you work makes a tangible difference to someone's life
Picture this: you're on a waking night rota, and you're not just monitoring a building - you're creating a calm, safe space where young people can sleep soundly because they know someone trustworthy is there. You might help someone work through what's on their mind before bed, respond to someone who's struggled through a difficult evening, or simply be the steady, caring presence that helps them feel secure. That's the rhythm of this role
You'll work with a team that actually gets it. They show up with compassion, they collaborate without drama, and they genuinely believe their work matters. When things are hard - and sometimes they are - you've got people around you who support each other properly. Training is thorough, progression is real, and your wellbeing isn't just a buzzword here; it's backed up with 24/7 access to mental health support, virtual GP appointments, and an employee assistance programme
The rota is structured and predictable, so you can plan your life around your work instead of the other way round. Pick up extra shifts when you want them. Know exactly when you're working. Build a career here, not just a job - with clear pathways to develop new skills and move forward
What you will be doing
- Provide safe, attentive support during waking night shifts, ensuring young people are settled, supported and have someone they trust nearby
- Respond calmly and caringly to any difficulties, emotional needs or concerns that arise during the night
- Build genuine relationships with the young people in the home, learning their needs, triggers and what helps them thrive
- Communicate clearly with the day team and other night staff, passing on important information and working collaboratively to deliver consistent care
- Support with practical tasks as needed - settling routines, listening, being present - whatever the young person needs to feel safe and supported
Why you will love working here
- Competitive salary of £28,000+ with structured waking night and flexible day rota options, plus genuine overtime opportunities to earn more
- Life insurance worth 2x your salary - real financial security for you and your loved ones
- 24/7 access to a virtual GP, mental health support and nutrition advice through our health service, plus an employee wellbeing app with counselling and lifestyle resources
- Comprehensive training and clear career progression pathways, so you can develop new skills and move forward
- £500 refer-a-friend bonus when you recommend someone who joins us - because we know good people attract good people
Is this you?
- You're kind, patient and genuinely interested in helping young people - no previous care experience needed if your attitude is right
- You're reliable and ready to show up every shift with purpose and consistency, because young people depend on it
- You're a natural communicator who listens well and works easily as part of a team
- You're open to learning, willing to ask questions, and committed to getting better at what you do
- You're comfortable working waking night hours and can bring calm, steady presence during the quieter parts of the shift
