Most SaLT roles feel like you're processing referrals and chasing targets, never quite getting time to think deeply about what's really going on with each young person. This is different: join a Clinical Services Team at a specialist school where your expertise in communication isn't an add-on to education - it's woven into everything, and you'll work with young people aged 8 - 16 whose complex needs (autism, attachment difficulties, developmental trauma, SEMH) demand exactly the kind of reflective, relationship-based practice you went into this profession to do

Picture your week: three days across specialist school sites, working alongside an experienced SaLT and a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant you'll mentor and develop. You'll assess young people using evidence-based tools, design individualised intervention plans that actually shift how they regulate, communicate, and engage - then watch those changes ripple through their learning and relationships. This isn't box-ticking. This is functional, meaningful work

You'll move between direct 1:1 and small-group work, class-based support, and indirect consultation with teaching staff who genuinely want to understand how to embed your strategies into daily practice. You'll write reports that inform EHCPs and multi-agency meetings where your voice carries weight. You'll deliver staff training that helps the whole team recognise communication as regulation, connection, and learning

The home ethos is therapeutic, nurturing, and child-centred. You'll have proper clinical supervision, a multidisciplinary team that actually collaborates, and genuine scope to shape how communication support develops across the service. If you're a reflective practitioner who's been craving a role where depth and impact matter more than throughput, this is it

What you will be doing

  • Assess speech, language, communication, and interaction needs using standardised and non-standardised tools, then develop and review individualised SaLT intervention plans
  • Deliver direct 1:1, small-group, and class-based interventions, plus indirect support that helps young people regulate emotions, build social interaction, and engage in learning
  • Write clear, functional clinical reports for EHCPs, annual reviews, and multi-agency meetings, and contribute actively to MDT discussions and joint planning
  • Provide clinical support, supervision, and CPD opportunities for a named Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, monitoring delegated programmes and supporting accurate data collection
  • Deliver staff training on speech, language, and communication topics, coaching teaching staff to embed SaLT strategies into everyday classroom practice
  • Manage your caseload across multiple school sites, maintain GDPR and HCPC-compliant records, and engage in continuous professional development

Why you will love working here

  • Part-time, 3 days per week, giving you flexibility and space for genuine reflection and professional development without burnout
  • A supportive Clinical Services Team with strong emphasis on supervision, staff wellbeing, and the kind of multidisciplinary collaboration where your expertise is valued and used
  • Real scope to shape service development and practice - you won't be implementing someone else's vision, you'll be building it
  • The chance to mentor a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, developing the next generation of therapists while consolidating your own clinical skills in a specialist SEMH setting

Is this you?

  • You hold a degree in Speech and Language Therapy, HCPC registration, and RCSLT membership
  • You're comfortable working independently and moving between multiple school sites - a full driving licence and access to a car are essential
  • You have genuine experience with children and young people who have complex needs, ideally in SEMH or trauma-informed settings, and you understand social communication difficulties and developmental language disorder
  • You're a reflective practitioner: emotionally resilient, organised, able to build trust with students, staff, and families, and confident advocating for young people while keeping collaboration at the heart
  • You have experience contributing to EHCPs or multi-agency working, and ideally you're familiar with AAC systems and symbol software - but most importantly, you believe that communication support transforms lives
