Most care homes talk about person-centred values but don't mean it. Staff burn out because they're stretched too thin, junior carers don't get proper mentoring, and the whole operation feels reactive rather than genuinely thoughtful. This role is different: you'll lead a team that actually puts those values into practice every single day, building the kind of workplace where both residents and staff thrive
Picture this: you arrive at a home that feels like a home. The residents know their routines, they're listened to, and their individual needs shape how the day runs. That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone like you is there, setting the tone, making sure the junior staff understand not just what to do, but why it matters. You're training them, supervising them, helping them see the human being in front of them rather than just a list of tasks
You'll be the person residents and staff both trust. When a resident's mood shifts, you notice it. When a new team member is struggling with a difficult personal care task, you're there alongside them, showing them how it's done with dignity and care. You'll liaise with GPs and support managers, keeping everyone connected and informed. Your voice carries weight because you know what's really happening on the ground
This isn't a role where you clock in and switch off. You're building something. You're developing junior and new staff members, watching them grow in confidence and competence. You're ensuring records are spot-on, rotas work for residents' actual needs, and medications, bathing, toileting and all the intimate care happens with the same high standard every single day. That's the work of someone who genuinely leads
What you will be doing
- Support and assist residents with all aspects of daily living, responding with genuine compassion to their individual needs and preferences
- Mentor, train and supervise junior and new staff members in all aspects of their work, helping them develop the skills and mindset that make truly person-centred care possible
- Answer the nurse call system promptly, manage the door and telephone, and handle queries and messages with professionalism
- Monitor residents' wellbeing closely, report on their condition, and liaise with GPs, support managers and other professionals to keep everyone informed
- Arrange and manage care rotas that meet residents' specific requirements, including medications, personal care, toileting and bathing, and complete all documentation and keyworker records to standard within agreed timeframes
