Picture this: you walk into a residential home or school site and you notice everything - the state of the paintwork, whether the heating's working, if a fence needs mending, what could be a safety risk. Most people walk past it. You see it, you fix it, and suddenly the place feels secure and cared for. That's your superpower, and in this role it matters enormously
You'll be coordinating maintenance across multiple sites, working closely with the Environment & Facilities Manager to prioritise jobs by urgency and risk. You'll support a small Maintenance team, showing them how to work safely and to a high standard. Some days you'll be hands-on yourself - plumbing, joinery, painting, decorating, garden work - and other days you'll be solving problems, ordering materials and making sure everything runs smoothly. It's genuinely varied work, and you're genuinely in charge
The children and staff here rely on you to keep their environment safe, welcoming and functional. You'll do routine Health & Safety checks - water temperatures, fire alarms, emergency lighting, fire exits - that actually protect people. When something breaks, you respond. When there's an emergency, you're the person who knows what to do. That's responsibility that matters
What you will be doing
- Coordinate and prioritise maintenance requests across the sites, allocating work based on urgency, risk, skills and availability
- Monitor outstanding jobs to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard, and support your Maintenance team with practical guidance
- Carry out hands-on maintenance work including plumbing, joinery, minor electrical work, building repairs, painting, decorating and gardening
- Complete routine Health & Safety checks including water temperatures, fire alarms, emergency lighting, fire exits and fire extinguishers, and maintain accurate records
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests, including occasional out-of-hours call-outs, and identify and report defects promptly
- Order materials and supplies within agreed budgets, keep tools secure, and maintain a clean and professional working environment
