Most team leader roles in residential care feel like glorified shift covers with a mountain of paperwork and no real support. This is different. We're looking for someone ready to step up, lead a real team, and shape the lives of young people with complex needs while being developed into the manager they could become

You'll walk into a home that runs on clear values and genuine trauma-informed practice, not just policy documents. The young people here have experienced real harm and complexity - and your job is to help the staff team understand them, support them consistently, and watch them stabilise and grow. That's the kind of work that stays with you

As Team Leader, you're not managing from behind a desk. You're on the floor, leading shifts alongside your team, modelling the care standards you expect, and spotting exactly where each staff member needs guidance or a confidence boost. You'll oversee care plan reviews, ensure safeguarding is tight, and build the kind of relationships with families and external agencies that actually move young people's lives forward

The training and mentoring piece is where it gets real. You'll develop staff who are sometimes new to the sector, help them understand how to work with trauma, and watch them find their feet. If you've got leadership potential or want to formalise it, there's a clear path here. Many staff have moved into Deputy and Manager roles from this home because they've been properly supported to grow

What you will be doing

  • Lead shifts and supervise the residential care team day to day, setting the tone for high-quality, trauma-informed care
  • Oversee care plan development and reviews, making sure each young person's needs are truly understood and consistently met across the team
  • Provide one-to-one supervision, guidance and mentoring to care staff, spotting where people need support and helping them develop
  • Work alongside the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager on daily operations, safeguarding, budgets, records and home standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, social workers, schools and other professionals involved in each young person's life
  • Contribute to home maintenance, shift planning, reporting systems and ensuring the home runs smoothly

Why you will love working here

  • A genuine leadership role where you lead from the front, not from a distance, with real authority and the support to do it well
  • Structured supervision and development, with a clear pathway if you want to move into Deputy or Manager positions
  • Work with a values-driven provider that's been established since 2007 and runs 17 homes across the North West, West Midlands and North Wales - stability and resources matter
  • The chance to work with young people whose lives genuinely can change when they get the right team, the right approach, and someone who believes in them
  • Flexibility around shifts and start times where the service allows, because we know this work is demanding and you need to be able to manage your own life too

Is this you?

  • Are you at least one year into residential childcare, comfortable on the floor and ready to step into a leadership position?
  • Do you hold or are you working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People Residential Care, or an Ofsted-recognised equivalent?
  • Have you got a genuine understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice, and the safeguarding procedures that keep young people safe?
  • Are you organised, a clear communicator, proficient in Microsoft Office, and able to prioritise when things get busy?
  • Can you work flexibly around shifts, including weekends and sleep-ins, and do you hold a full UK driving licence?
  • If you've got a Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification or supervisory experience already, that's a real advantage - but enthusiasm and the right values matter most
