Most team leader roles in housing feel like you're pushing paper and chasing numbers. This one is different: you'll lead a tight team of surveyors doing the real work that keeps homes safe, efficient and fit for the future. If you've got the technical chops, the people skills, and you want to make decisions that actually matter, read on

Picture yourself leading a team of Property Condition Surveyors and Domestic Energy Assessors across Devon, working to a purpose that goes beyond the job spec. You're not just collecting data on building condition and energy efficiency - you're gathering the intelligence that drives investment decisions, shapes retrofit programmes aligned with net zero goals, and ultimately helps ensure homes are safe and sustainable for the people who live in them. Every survey validated, every data point checked, every team member you develop moves the needle

The home you'll be working in values innovation and continuous improvement, not box-ticking. You'll collaborate with strategic managers to plan survey programmes, champion energy efficiency work that supports SAP ratings and PAS 2035 objectives, and build real relationships with neighbourhood teams to understand what residents actually need. You'll have the autonomy to set the standard for how your team works - training them on spot checks, benchmarking and validation - and the backing to do it properly

This is a six-month fixed-term contract (37 hours per week, field-based across Somerset with Weston-Super-Mare as your office hub), but it's a genuine launchpad. The organisation invests in professional growth, supports people working towards qualifications like CIOB, CIH or RICS, and celebrates the kind of leadership that comes from skill and integrity, not just a job title. If you want to prove what you can do and build something real, they'll make room for you to grow

  • You're someone who builds relationships and influences people, and you understand that leadership is a set of skills, not a rank on the org chart
