Most Team Leader roles in residential care feel like you're drowning in paperwork while everyone else gets to do the actual work with the young people. This one is different: you'll lead a small, tight-knit team while staying hands-on with the children, building real relationships and making decisions that actually matter. If you're tired of management that's all meetings and no impact, this could be the breakthrough you've been waiting for

Picture yourself leading a team where staff actually want to be there. You're not managing from behind a desk; you're working alongside your team, modelling the practice you expect, stepping in when a young person needs you most, and creating a culture where everyone knows their contribution genuinely counts. That's what this role offers: leadership with substance, not distance

The home takes its training seriously. Every member of your team gets ongoing professional development and access to relevant qualifications, which means you're not inheriting a burnt-out crew scrambling to keep up. You're inheriting people who are growing, supported, and ready to deliver. You'll champion that culture as Team Leader, spotting potential in staff and helping them develop it

New starters to the service go through a comprehensive induction programme designed to set them up properly, not throw them in the deep end. As Team Leader, you'll shape how that happens for your team, ensuring consistency and standards while building people who actually stay. That stability makes leadership real instead of exhausting

What you will be doing

  • Lead and line-manage a small team of residential support workers, providing direct supervision, appraisals and one-to-one support
  • Work shifts alongside your team, engaging directly with the young people and modelling the care standards you expect
  • Ensure the home maintains high staff-to-child ratios and safe, consistent practice across all shifts
  • Contribute to staff recruitment, induction and ongoing development, identifying training needs and supporting colleagues toward professional qualifications
  • Help maintain the culture and quality of the service, escalating issues and feeding back the realities of the home to senior leadership

Why you will love working here

  • A comprehensive induction week when you start, so you arrive knowing the service, the team and the young people properly
  • Regular ongoing CPD and support towards professional qualifications, because we invest in leaders who want to grow
  • The chance to refer staff you know to the service and receive a referral bonus if they're hired and pass probation
  • Leadership that's genuinely hands-on: you'll stay connected to the children and the real work, not isolated in management

Is this you?

  • You've got experience working in residential care with children or young people, ideally in a supervisory or leading role
  • You understand safeguarding, child development and trauma-informed practice, and you can talk about it without the jargon
  • You're hands-on: you don't see leading as stepping away from direct care, and you're comfortable working shifts including evenings and weekends
  • You can manage people warmly but with clear boundaries, spotting potential in staff and helping them grow
  • You've got or you're working towards a relevant qualification such as NVCC Level 3, Diploma in Leadership, or equivalent experience that demonstrates your capability
