You'll be working in a specialist school built specifically for young people with moderate to severe learning difficulties and complex social, emotional and sensory needs. This isn't a general school trying to make SEND fit; everything here is designed around what these learners actually need to thrive. Your days will move between classroom learning, one-to-one home tuition, outreach work and outdoor activities - so no two days feel like the last one, and you're never stuck at a desk when a young person needs your presence in the real world
The curriculum is serious but the atmosphere is human. You'll be mentoring and inspiring learners through their learning, handling behaviour with skill and calm (not punishment), writing daily reports that actually matter because they shape next steps, and building real relationships with parents and carers who see you as part of their child's team. When you support a young person through a breakthrough moment, or help a learner crack something they've been struggling with for months, you'll feel it - that's the work
The provider invests in your growth. Level 3 TA qualifications are advantageous, and the training is fully funded so you can earn them while you work. What you will be doing
- Support young people (aged 8-19) with complex needs through classroom-based curriculum learning, individualised teaching in their homes and outreach work
- Co-deliver learning objectives with teachers while managing behaviour proactively and creating safe, respectful interactions
- Prepare learning materials and resources that meet individual pupils' needs and learning styles
- Write clear daily progress reports noting what young people learned, what barriers they faced and what comes next
- Work regularly with parents and carers, sharing updates and building genuine partnerships around each young person's progress

Is this you?
- You have a real, demonstrated commitment to working with young people with SEND - not just words, but genuine passion for their potential
- At least two years of hands-on experience in a SEND environment, specialist unit or similar provision
- You understand that behaviour is communication and you're skilled at de-escalation, boundaries and building trust with complex young people
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (if you don't have this yet, the provider will fund you to gain it)
