Most teaching jobs feel like you're drowning in paperwork and fighting against the system. This one is different: you'll work with 5-7 young adults aged 16-25 in a college that actually trusts you to design lessons around who they really are, and gives you the time and team to make it happen. If you've ever wanted to teach somewhere that puts relationship and real learning first, read on

Picture this: you walk into your classroom knowing every single learner by name, what makes them tick, what lights them up. Today one student is working towards independent living skills, another is heading into employment, a third is discovering confidence through communication for the first time. You're not teaching at them - you're teaching with them, adapting in real time, watching the moment something clicks. That's the daily reality here

The college runs on a Post-16 Study Programme model, so your curriculum weaves together work experience, life skills, functional Maths and English, and pathways to real adulthood. You're not confined to four walls either - learners get out into the community, and so do you. The integrated therapies team works alongside you; there's a total communication environment across campus; colleagues actively collaborate because everyone here believes these young adults deserve exceptional education

You won't be doing this alone. The home invests hard in training and development - whether that's curriculum design, peer support, or working closely with the therapies team. Wellbeing is genuinely prioritised: you get six-weekly confidential check-in clinics with the therapies team, group reflective practice sessions, mental health support, and a culture that knows teaching SEND is rewarding and demanding in equal measure. This is a team that has your back

What you will be doing

  • Lead classroom activities: plan, teach and assess learning tailored to each learner's pathway - whether that's employment, independence, or communication development
  • Monitor and record progress both academically and against each learner's EHCP outcomes, spotting when progress is at risk and adapting quickly
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to keep learners engaged and motivated, building those strong connections that only happen when class sizes stay small
  • Direct and support Learning Support Assistants to amplify the impact of your teaching across the team
  • Design a bespoke curriculum for each individual learner, recognising that flexibility and responsiveness aren't obstacles - they're the whole point
  • Create inspirational learning opportunities both inside the classroom and out in the community, drawing on work experience placements and real-world contexts

Why you will love working here

  • Salary of £30,014 to £37,003 per annum (40 hours per week, 42.4 weeks per year), with full annual leave paid for the remaining 9.6 weeks - so you actually get a proper break
  • A real pension scheme: you pay in 5%, the college adds 3%
  • Comprehensive learning and development opportunities to grow your skills in curriculum design, SEND pedagogy and therapeutic practice
  • Wellbeing support that's genuine: mental health access, six-weekly confidential check-ins with the therapies team, group reflective practice, and a Cycle2Work scheme to get you moving
  • Blue Light Card discounts, employee benefits platform access, and after 12 months service eligibility for the Medicash scheme covering medical and health expenses
  • Enhanced DBS fully covered by the college

Is this you?

  • You have patience, compassion and resilience - you understand that neurodiverse learners may communicate and learn differently, and you see that as the richness of the role, not the difficulty
  • You're a confident communicator who can speak clearly with learners, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders, and you're comfortable sharing information through different formats and resources
  • You're engaged with EHCPs and can shape personalised curriculum around individual target outcomes - you don't see paperwork as box-ticking, you see it as the map for real change
  • You're flexible and adaptable - you roll with the reality that no two days are identical, and you're genuinely interested in building a career focused on educating young people with a wide range of needs
  • You have a genuine desire to understand each young person deeply and meet them where they are
