Most teaching roles ask you to inspire the next generation with one hand tied behind your back. Not this one. This is a permanent position where your aerospace expertise actually shapes real futures, your practical know-how is valued every single day, and you get paid to do what you're genuinely good at - coaching the engineers who'll build tomorrow's aircraft

Picture this: you're in the workshop with apprentices who are hungry to learn real aerospace engineering. You're not reading from a textbook written in 2010. You're drawing on your industry experience, setting up practical tasks that mirror what's happening on actual production lines, and watching young people have that moment where it clicks - where they realise they're actually capable of this. That's the day-to-day here

The home values innovation and practical learning, not box-ticking. You'll have the freedom to create high-quality materials aligned to industry standards, to assess learners through observations and real portfolio evidence, and to work directly with employers so your apprentices gain meaningful workplace experience. Your ideas matter because you're trusted to shape the programme

You'll get proper support to grow too. Regular CPD days, coaching, staff development opportunities, and the chance to contribute to continuous improvement across the department. Whether you're an experienced aerospace professional stepping into teaching or a vocational trainer ready for your next challenge, there's genuine room to develop here

What you will be doing

  • Deliver engaging classroom and workshop-based teaching that builds apprentices' technical knowledge and practical aerospace engineering skills from day one
  • Assess and evaluate learner competence through observations, practical skills assessments, and portfolio evidence - tracking real progress against apprenticeship standards
  • Plan and deliver high-quality learning activities and practical tasks aligned to industry standards, then adapt them based on what your learners actually need
  • Provide tailored coaching and guidance to support apprentices throughout their apprenticeship journey, helping them develop essential skills in English, maths, health and safety, and professional behaviours
  • Work collaboratively with employers to ensure learners gain meaningful workplace experience and develop the soft skills that matter as much as technical knowledge
  • Maintain high standards through active participation in standardisation, moderation, and team meetings - contributing to continuous improvement across the department

Why you will love working here

  • Salary up to £35,619 per annum based on your experience and qualifications, with a possible market supplement of up to £5,000 for the right candidate
  • 40 days' annual leave plus bank holidays and a full Christmas shutdown - proper time to recharge
  • An excellent Local Government pension scheme and free on-site gym access, cycle to work scheme, and free parking
  • Genuine wellbeing support: free counselling, an on-site restaurant and Starbucks, discounted hair and beauty treatments, eye care scheme, and enhanced maternity, adoption and sickness schemes
  • Wightlink travel discounts, regular CPD days, and a workplace that actually invests in your development and wellbeing - not just your labour

Is this you?

  • Is this you: you have Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, and at least Level 3 in Aerospace Engineering or a related engineering discipline?
  • You've got genuine industry experience within aerospace engineering, aerospace manufacturing, aircraft production or maintenance - real hands-on background?
  • You already hold a teaching qualification, or you're genuinely willing to achieve one as part of this role?
  • You can manage a busy, dynamic environment without losing your grip - planning effectively, staying organised, and delivering quality even when things get hectic?
