Most care jobs offer the same tired routine: low pay, unpredictable rotas, and nowhere real to go. This isn't one of them. We're recruiting Residential Care Workers for a small, nurturing EBD home where you'll actually see the difference you make - and be rewarded properly for it

You'll be working with children aged 11 to 17, many of whom have experienced trauma or struggled in other settings. This home is different: it's small enough that you know every young person deeply, yet staffed well enough that you're never drowning. Your job is to create the stable, safe environment where healing happens - cooking meals together, setting clear boundaries with warmth, being the adult who doesn't give up when things get hard

The team here actually supports you. You get monthly clinical psychology support to help you understand what's really going on beneath the behaviour. Training isn't an afterthought - it's built in, free, and company-funded. If you want your NVQ Level 4, they'll pay for it and give you space to complete it within your first six months. You're not expected to know everything; you're expected to be willing to learn

The rota works 2 days on, 4 days off - real breathing room between shifts, not the fragmented chaos of most residential work. Sleep-ins are paid at £60 per night. Do overtime and get 1.5x rate for waking nights. Loyalty pays: stay three years and you're banking an extra £450 plus an extra week's leave. A 4% annual pay rise kicks in after your first year. They even add a birthday leave day and double-time on Christmas and New Year's Day

What you will be doing

  • Provide basic care and nurturing support that helps children progress - from cooking and washing to budgeting and life skills they'll need beyond the home
  • Maintain clear, consistent boundaries and act as a positive role model, demonstrating calm, professional behaviour even when situations are challenging
  • Know the children's Risk Assessments and Behaviour Plans inside out, apply them daily, and spot early signs of distress or harm before they escalate
  • Work the rota flexibly - including sleeping shifts - and cover sickness or holidays when needed to keep the home running smoothly
  • Communicate with supervisors and team members about each child's physical and emotional needs, recording significant behaviour changes and feeding back observations

Why you will love working here

  • Salary of £33,440 to £35,000 p/a, plus £60 for every sleeping shift you work, overtime at 1.25x and 1.5x rates for night work
  • Real progression: loyalty bonuses of £250, £350, £450, £550 in years 1 - 4, then £600 at year 5 and £1,250 at year 10, plus extra annual leave days each year
  • Free company-funded training including your NVQ Level 4, plus monthly support from a Clinical Psychologist to help you understand and manage complex behaviour
  • A rota that actually gives you a life: 2 days on, 4 days off. Free meals on shift, gym access, staff discounts, company pension, and an extra birthday leave day
  • Work in a small, child-focused home where you're known and valued, not a number - with a supportive team and real room to progress within the service

Is this you?

  • You have NVQ Level 4, or you're genuinely willing to work towards it within your first six months - we'll fund it
  • You understand attachment theory, child development, and the impact of trauma - or you're hungry to learn these things properly
  • You know what safeguarding means in a residential setting: you spot child exploitation, recognise allegations, and act without hesitation
  • You're punctual, professional, and you can stay calm and centred when a young person is dysregulated or a situation is messy
  • You have a real child-centred approach - you listen, communicate, and see the person behind the behaviour
