Most care jobs in Swindon offer you a rota and a payslip. This one offers you real training, flexibility that actually works, and the chance to be the adult who changes a young person's life. If you've ever wondered whether you could make a genuine difference working with children and young people who need stability and belief, this is the role that proves you can - no experience required
Picture yourself on a Thursday evening helping one of the young people in the home choose what colour to paint their bedroom wall. You're not just painting - you're showing them their space matters, that their voice counts. Five minutes later you're at a sports club, cheering them on. Tomorrow you might support someone through a health appointment or help plan weekend activities. This is residential care work that's actually about people, not just tasks
The home operates flexibly: you can work bank shifts, full time, part time, days, nights or a mix. Want more structure? Go full time. Need to fit this around other commitments? Bank work gives you that choice. The team is led by a Registered Manager and Deputy Manager who know that good care happens when staff feel supported and valued, not squeezed
You'll receive full training - the home invests in getting you properly equipped. You'll work alongside experienced team leaders who'll show you how to read a young person, how to stay calm, how to be the safe adult they've been waiting for. Most people come to care work unsure if they can do it. Months in, they realise they're better at it than they ever imagined
What you will be doing
- Provide practical, physical and emotional support to children and young people, meeting their individual needs with warmth and consistency
- Act as an appropriate role model and offer advice and assistance that helps young people address their difficulties and move toward their potential
- Support young people to attend social activities, education and health care appointments, and help them feel confident in those spaces
- Help maintain and personalise the home alongside the young people, so they feel genuine ownership of their space
Why you will love working here
- £12.60 per hour, with the flexibility to choose your own pattern: full time, part time, days, nights or bank shifts
- Full training provided, so you come in ready to learn rather than expected to already know
- A management structure that actually supports you - Registered Manager and Deputy in place, alongside experienced Team Leaders who know their job
- The chance to do work that matters: you're not processing paperwork, you're genuinely changing how young people see themselves and their futures
Is this you?
- Are you reliable and enthusiastic, ready to show up consistently and care about getting it right?
- Can you stay calm under pressure and respond to young people's emotional and practical needs without judgment?
- Are you willing to learn? You don't need experience - we provide full training - but you do need genuine willingness to grow into the role
- Do you understand that residential care is teamwork? You'll take direction from the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Team Leaders, and work as part of a proper team
