Most care jobs feel like just another shift pattern and a payslip - but this one is different. We're looking for someone who genuinely believes every young person has potential, no matter what they've been through, and who wants to work somewhere that actually invests in their growth. If you've got experience in residential childcare and you're tired of feeling undervalued, read on
Picture this: you're working in a large family detached home, Ofsted-rated outstanding or good, where the rota actually works for your life. You're doing 2 on, 4 off - proper time to recharge - and some shifts let you work days only, 10am to 10pm. The team you'll join has been here for years; they're not burnt out, they're genuinely loyal, and they've built something that feels like family
Your day involves real relationships with young people who need someone steady and consistent. You're not just managing behaviour; you're creating a relaxed, friendly environment where they can actually enjoy themselves, build self-esteem, and learn to respect themselves and others. You'll sit with them in decision-making, help them think about their futures - whether that's moving into a family placement or another home - and know you've made a real difference
Here's what makes this place different: they fund your NVQ Level 3 in health and social care and your Level 5 diploma. They provide clinical counselling and guidance for all staff - because they know this work is intense and you need support to do it well. There are sleep-ins available if you want them (up to 10 a month for full-time), meals provided on shift, a bike to work scheme, and genuine rewards for long service including extra annual leave. Loyalty here actually gets noticed
What you will be doing
- Create a friendly, relaxed environment that encourages young people's enjoyment, self-motivation and self-esteem
- Actively involve young people in decisions affecting the home and support their voice in shaping day-to-day life
- Maintain accurate recordings and handle the day-to-day administration that keeps the home running smoothly
- Work with young people and prospective carers to plan successful moves into family placements or other residential settings
- Represent the home professionally in all contact with external agencies and be an ambassador for the service
Why you will love working here
- A genuinely flexible rota: 2 on, 4 off shift patterns, with day-only options (10am - 10pm) available on some shifts - time to actually live your life
- Full training and development funded: NVQ Level 3 and Level 5 diploma paid for, plus mandatory and additional training every year
- Sleep-in opportunities (up to 10 per month for full-time staff), all meals provided on shift, and access to clinical counselling and guidance when you need it
- A stable, loyal team in Ofsted-rated homes where people stay because they genuinely like working here - no burnout culture
- Bike to work scheme, staff discounts across shops, entertainment and restaurants, increased annual leave for long service, and rewards for outstanding Ofsted results
- Hourly rate of £12.71 to £13.46, with full-time and long-term contract options available
