You'll be the steady presence in a young person's week. This is shift work on a rota basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays, so you need to be flexible and committed. But that commitment gets reciprocated: you'll have regular supervision, you'll attend team meetings and training sessions, and you'll be working alongside a Registered Manager and care staff who are trying to maintain a therapeutic approach, not just survive the shift
You'll handle real responsibility: money management, case file records, incident reports, handovers, liaison with social workers and external agencies. The home has clear policies and procedures, and you'll help develop and review them. You'll also undertake sleeping-in duties as required, which means you become part of the fabric of the place, not just a visitor
What you will be doing
- Be part of the on-shift team, ensuring safe and appropriate care practices are maintained with a diverse group of young people at all times
- Coordinate the daily routine of the home, support the manager with operational management, and ensure all policies and procedures are followed
- Implement and participate in care plans for each young person, maintaining regular recording and submitting reports when required
- Provide a safe, warm and supportive environment: manage the cleanliness and upkeep of the home, support young people in their personal spaces and communal areas, and undertake delegated household duties
- Handle administrative duties including logbooks, daily logs, incident forms, handovers and case file records; manage telephone enquiries and money as required
- Physically intervene if a young person's behaviour is dangerous, in line with procedural guidelines and legislation; demonstrate sensitivity and appropriate assertiveness in a pressured environment
