Most care jobs feel like you're just managing crises and ticking boxes. This is different: you'll be the steady, real presence in a young person's life when they need it most, building trust and watching them actually change. If you've got genuine warmth, practical common sense, and you want work that matters, this role in Rotherham could be the one

You'll be working with children and young people facing real challenges, and your job is to be their anchor. That means sitting with them when they're upset, helping them see their own strength, and showing up consistently. Some days it's homework help and a laugh over a meal you've cooked together. Other days it's spotting when something's wrong and knowing exactly who to call. You'll write up what you see, collaborate with their parents, teachers, and the wider team, and watch as the pieces start to fit together and they begin to thrive

The home operates as a proper team, not a shift-rota factory. You'll work alongside colleagues who actually care, with managers who know your name and your strengths. Training is built in, safeguarding matters every single day, and your observations are taken seriously because they feed into real, personalized care plans. This isn't a job you leave at the door; it's work that shapes how you see people and what you're capable of

What you will be doing

  • Build genuine, supportive relationships with the young people in your care, actively listening to their concerns and offering comfort, reassurance and guidance
  • Support with daily living tasks like personal hygiene, dressing, meal preparation and household routines, keeping the environment safe and clean
  • Implement behavior management strategies and help develop personalized behavior support plans that encourage positive choices and appropriate social interactions
  • Assist with education and learning, including homework help, and organize age-appropriate recreational activities like sports, arts and crafts, and outings that build confidence and connection
  • Monitor health and safety, spot risks, respond to medical needs or incidents, and maintain accurate records of observations and significant developments
  • Work closely with colleagues, parents, guardians, teachers and other professionals to develop and deliver individualized care that meets each young person's specific needs and goals

Why you will love working here

  • Waking nights and day shifts available, giving you flexibility around your life
  • Proper training and ongoing professional development so you grow in role and confidence
  • A team that values your contribution and a workplace where safeguarding is lived every day, not just talked about
  • The genuine satisfaction of seeing young people move forward, knowing you helped them get there

Is this you?

  • You've got at least a high school certificate or equivalent, and ideally some experience in childcare, youth support, or a related role (though passion can count for a lot)
  • You're genuinely empathetic and patient, with the ability to connect with young people who are struggling and communicate clearly with their families and the team around them
  • You have a basic grasp of child development, understand safeguarding and child protection, and you take confidentiality and professionalism seriously
  • You're organized and detail-minded, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and flexible enough to adapt when plans change (which they do)
  • You're the kind of person who can sit with difficult emotions without panicking, who notices the small wins, and who genuinely wants to make a difference in a young person's life
