Most care jobs pay minimum wage and leave you emotionally drained. This one doesn't. We're looking for someone who genuinely wants to turn a young person's life around in a specialist two-bedroom home where trauma-informed care and real relationships are what actually happen, not what's promised in the staff handbook
You'll be working in a close-knit setting with just a handful of young people who've been through crisis and trauma. That means you're not rushing from task to task - you're actually present. You're the adult who takes them to the cinema because they asked, who notices when they're struggling, who helps them believe things can get better. That matters more than you might think right now
The team here invests in you as much as the young people do. You'll get paid BILD accredited induction training from day one (paid, not on your own time), and once you're settled, there's a clear route to get a proper qualification while you work. This isn't a dead-end job - it's a launchpad into a career in residential care that actually pays
The logistics are real too. You work long shifts (8am to 11pm with regular sleep nights built in), but your rota is given in advance so you can actually plan your life. The salary reflects the work - £33,682 to £34,305 depending on qualifications - plus opportunities to pick up overtime at enhanced rates if you want extra. And small touches matter: a paid day off for your birthday, access to a free holiday home in the Peak District, staff discounts through the app, even counselling and financial advice when you need it
What you will be doing
- Provide day-to-day care, supervision and emotional support to young people in crisis, using trauma-informed approaches that help them heal and build trust
- Plan and facilitate recreational activities tailored to each young person's interests - cinema trips, swimming, sports - and use these moments to strengthen relationships and build their confidence
- Work the rota as given (8am-11pm shifts plus approximately 8 sleep nights per month) as part of a 365-day service, ensuring continuity of care year-round
- Contribute to a safe, nurturing home environment where young people's individual needs are met fairly and consistently, and equality and dignity are non-negotiable
- Engage with training and development opportunities, including your BILD accredited induction and routes to further qualifications once employed
