Most care jobs promise 'making a difference' and then leave you exhausted, undervalued and stuck in the same role for years. This one is different: you'll work a 2 on, 4 off rota that actually protects your life outside work, earn real money (£24,500 - £26,650 plus £50 sleep-ins), and have a clear path to grow through a funded Level 3 or 4 Diploma. If you're the kind of person who can genuinely turn a young person's day around, read on

Picture this: you arrive for your shift in Knowsley, and you know exactly what you're walking into. A residential home where vulnerable children are finally safe enough to start healing. Your job is to be the calm, consistent adult who helps them process the emotional and behavioural difficulties they're carrying, and to develop the self-esteem that no one's given them yet. You're not just supervising - you're actively engaging with them, planning activities both in the home and out in the community, and showing them what a positive role model actually looks like

The team here gets it. You're not working in isolation or drowning under impossible expectations. You'll take part in proper supervision and appraisal, join a staff team that actively supports each other, and have access to an employee assistance programme when things get heavy. The Registered Manager has your back, and you'll be trusted enough to take charge of day-to-day operations when needed. That's not just responsibility - that's respect

Within a year or two, you could be mentoring newer staff members and developing your understanding of complex child development. The provider funds your Diploma (Level 3 or 4) completely free. You'll also get a Health Cash Plan that covers dental, opticians, physiotherapy and online GP consultations - and your children can be added for free. Death in service insurance of 3x salary, a cycle to work scheme, technology benefits, bonus schemes for attendance, and your birthday off, every year. This isn't a job that drains you and throws you away; it's built to let you grow

What you will be doing

  • Support and safeguard young people every day, being alert to signs of distress or abuse and reporting concerns immediately to the manager
  • Communicate positively and engage proactively with each young person, helping them work through emotional and behavioural challenges in a warm, practical way
  • Plan, prepare and deliver activities both within the home and in the wider community that build confidence and help young people reach their potential
  • Take charge of day-to-day operations and share leadership of the home during the Registered Manager's absence, mentoring and guiding other team members
  • Maintain clear records and communications with the team about each young person's progress, behaviour and care needs, and actively participate in staff meetings
  • Respect and promote each child's racial, cultural and religious background, ensuring their wishes and feelings are genuinely heard in decisions about their care

Why you will love working here

  • Real money: £24,500 - £26,650 depending on experience, plus £50 per sleep-in (averaging around 10 per month)
  • A rota that respects your life: 2 on, 4 off, with 4 weeks' holiday pro rata and your birthday off every year
  • Completely free Diploma Level 3 or 4 training to build your career in residential care
  • Comprehensive support: Health Cash Plan (dental, opticians, physiotherapy, online GP, children free), Employee Assistance Programme, Death in Service insurance of 3x salary, cycle to work and technology schemes, plus bonus schemes for attendance and employee of the month
  • A team that trusts you enough to lead: you'll mentor other staff, have real responsibility, and work alongside a Registered Manager who backs you up

Is this you?

  • Are you calm, consistent and genuinely able to read a young person's emotional needs before they even say them out loud?
  • Do you have the stamina to work a rolling 2 on, 4 off rota and stay enthusiastic about delivering high-quality care every shift?
  • Are you willing to embrace training and continuous professional development, using supervision to genuinely reflect and improve?
  • Can you model positive behaviour and boundaries, acting as a real role model for young people who've had very few in their lives?
  • Are you team-minded, able to support colleagues and ask for support yourself when you need it?
