Most care jobs feel like you're just getting through the shift, ticking boxes while the paperwork piles up and you never quite connect with the people you're meant to be supporting. This role is different: you'll be part of a team that actually has time to know the young people, respect their dignity, and help them build real independence in their own home
Picture this: you arrive for your shift and you know exactly what matters to each person that day. One young person needs help getting ready for college, so you're there supporting them through their morning routine with patience and genuine care. Another needs company in the evening, so you sit with them, listen, and help them think through what's coming next. You're not rushing between tasks - you're building relationships that actually change lives
The beauty of this work is that independence isn't something you give - it's something you help people discover in themselves. Whether that's teaching someone to dress with confidence, supporting them through personal hygiene, helping them manage their finances, or just being present during the day and evening sitting services, you're giving them the tools and the belief that they can do more than they thought they could
You'll work as part of a team that invests in you. Regular in-service training keeps you sharp, supervision means you're never left guessing, and the staff meetings actually involve your voice in how things improve. You'll work alongside a Senior Worker and Team Leader who back you up, and the Care Services Manager listens when you flag something that needs attention
What you will be doing
- Support young people with personal care - dressing, washing, grooming, hygiene and continence management - always treating them with dignity and respect
- Help with household management: cooking snacks and meals, cleaning, laundry, bed-making and general domestic duties tailored to each person's needs and preferences
- Assist with healthcare tasks including helping service users take prescribed medication as directed
- Provide day, evening and night sitting services as required, and help young people access activities and trips out
- Keep accurate, timely records of care, diary sheets and timesheets; participate in Care Plan reviews and staff meetings
- Report any concerns about a young person's wellbeing or care to your Senior Worker or Team Leader straight away
Why you will love working here
- Regular in-service training and structured induction so you're genuinely equipped for the role, not thrown in the deep end
- Clear supervision and a management team that listens - when you spot something that needs attention, you know who to tell and you know it matters
- The chance to actually see the impact of your work: helping young people gain confidence, learn new skills, and move towards real independence
- A role that respects your time: you know your shifts, you know what's expected, and you work as part of a team that has your back
Is this you?
- You're someone who genuinely wants to help young people build independence and life skills - not just pass time
- You can be organised and reliable: you keep accurate records, you turn up on time, and you follow the home's policies and procedures without needing to be chased
- You're comfortable with personal care tasks and willing to learn - whether that's supporting someone with washing and dressing, preparing meals, or managing household duties
- You're a team player who welcomes induction and in-service training, asks questions when you're unsure, and communicates clearly with your Senior Worker and colleagues
- You respect people's dignity, privacy and right to do things for themselves - you're there to support, not take over
