Most care jobs ask you to manage on a wing and a prayer, with tired teams and young people who've learned not to trust adults. This role is different: you'll join a home where safeguarding is lived, not just ticked off, and where your ability to connect with young people facing real emotional and behavioural challenges actually changes their trajectory. If you're someone who sees potential in kids other people have written off, read on
You walk into a home where children and young people know their voices matter. Your job is to make that real every single day: you're not just supervising, you're role-modelling what it looks like to be calm, consistent and genuinely interested in their wellbeing. You work alongside a team that gets it, that understands how trauma and difficulty shape behaviour, and that believes every young person deserves a space where they can feel secure and heard
This isn't a desk job or a tick-box role. You're in the thick of it, supporting young people through their days, working in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to keep them safe and help them move forward. You'll manage situations that require real skill and emotional intelligence, and you'll do it knowing that the home operates with integrity and values that actually mean something
You'll bring attention to safeguarding concerns the moment you spot them, protect the rights of the young people in your care, and actively shape an environment where every child feels they belong. This is work that matters. The team you join will support you, train you, and hold you accountable in equal measure because excellence in care isn't negotiable here
What you will be doing
- Work directly with children and young people on a daily basis, delivering high-quality care that keeps them safe and helps them thrive
- Act as a role model and mentor, empowering and motivating young people while supporting your colleagues to do the same
- Support young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, managing challenging behaviour with skill, empathy and consistent boundaries
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of every child in your care, escalating any concerns to the Registered Manager immediately
- Work in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to ensure joined-up, person-centred support
- Ensure the physical and emotional environment is appropriate, safe and sensitive to the specific needs of the children and young people you support
Why you will love working here
- You'll join a home that actually lives its values and holds safeguarding as sacred, not a box to tick
- Work with a team that understands the complexity of caring for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties and supports each other to do it well
- Real development and growth: you'll be supported to build your skills, understanding and confidence in this role
- Accountability that goes both ways: your welfare and professional wellbeing matter as much as the young people's does
Is this you?
- Are you someone who brings ethics, integrity and genuine empathy to everything you do?
- Do you have a strong, unshakeable commitment to safeguarding and working inclusively with vulnerable young people?
- Can you stay calm and confident when supporting young people with emotional and behavioural challenges, seeing behaviour as communication rather than confrontation?
- Are you willing to hold yourself and others to high professional standards, constantly striving to improve how you work?
- Do you listen to young people, take their views seriously, and fight to make sure their voices are heard and acted upon?
