Most residential care jobs feel like you're just getting young people through the day. This one is different: you'll be the adult who genuinely changes how they see themselves and their future. If you've got the empathy to connect with young people who've been let down, and the practical grit to help them build real independence, keep reading

Picture this: a young person walks in who's never managed money, never held a tenancy, never imagined they could live independently. Over months, you guide them through budgeting, help them understand their rights as a tenant, coach them through relationships and health choices. You watch them go from 'I can't do this' to moving into their own place with genuine confidence. That's your work here

You'll use structured ASDAN modules covering finance, tenancy support, personal development, health and wellbeing, healthy eating, relationships and culture. But it's not tick-box training: you're real with young people, adapting your approach to what they actually need, working independently when required and bringing the team together when it matters. Sleep-in shifts (around 10 per month) mean you're there for the moments that matter most

The provider has supported over 24,000 people into independent living over 25 years. Your team knows what works because they've seen it work. You'll get genuine training and the chance to work towards NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care if you haven't got it already. This is a place where your experience with young people affected by trauma, mental health challenges and complex behaviour is actually valued and built upon

What you will be doing

  • Deliver tailored life skills support to young people, helping them develop confidence and independence across finance, tenancy, health, relationships and daily practical tasks
  • Assist with educational, health and welfare needs, ensuring young people can access the resources and appointments they need
  • Work sleep-in shifts (typically 10 per month) where you'll maintain a safe, supportive environment and respond to young people's needs during quieter hours
  • Keep accurate records and reports on young people's progress, contributing to the team's understanding of what's working
  • Manage day-to-day tasks and appointments with young people, helping them build routines and independence

Why you will love working here

  • £34,375.24 per year (£25,800 basic salary plus £71.28 per sleep-in shift, with around 10 sleep-ins monthly)

  • The chance to see the direct impact of your work: you'll watch young people move from crisis into genuine independence

Is this you?

  • Is this you: you've worked with young people who have complex emotional and social needs, including those affected by trauma, mental health issues or challenging behaviour
  • You have strong communication skills and work comfortably both independently and as part of a team, with genuine empathy and patience
  • You've got solid safeguarding knowledge and understand how to protect vulnerable young people
  • You hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle with business insurance (essential for this role)
  • You have, or are willing to work towards, NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care
