Most support work leaves you feeling like you're just processing paperwork and hitting targets. This role is different: you'll be the person who actually helps young people and adults build real independence, make real decisions about their lives, and genuinely move forward. If you've got a car, a driving licence, and you're tired of work that doesn't matter, read on

Picture this: you're meeting a care leaver in Chester for their weekly check-in. Last month, they couldn't imagine managing their own flat. Today, they're showing you the budget spreadsheet they've created, they're attending college three days a week, and they're asking your advice about a job interview coming up. That's the core of what you'll be doing here. You'll be building independent living skills with young people and adults aged 16+, many of whom have spent years in the care system and are figuring out what it means to truly look after themselves

The team here works across the full spectrum: care leavers, separated children, family placements, adults with mental health challenges, NHS referrals. Your caseload will be yours to build and manage. You'll write the reports that show what each person has learned and where they're heading. You'll liaise with social workers, healthcare practitioners, the DWP, sometimes the police. You'll sit in their kitchen and help them with benefits forms, medication reminders, getting to appointments. You'll de-escalate the tough moments and celebrate the breakthroughs. This is work that compounds: the skills you teach stick with people for life

The rota is Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, 20 hours a week. You'll be based in the Chester area but travelling across Cheshire to see your people where they live. A car and a full driving licence are essential because you're meeting people in their own homes and communities, not behind a desk. The pay is £15,025.92 per year, and you'll get £250 when you finish induction, then another £250 when you pass probation. That's real money that acknowledges you're showing up and doing the work

What you will be doing

  • Manage your own caseload of service users across the Chester area, building their independent living skills week by week
  • Write detailed assessments of each person's independent living abilities and progress, showing what's working and where they need more support
  • Visit properties weekly to check in and spot any issues early, keeping people safe and their homes in good order
  • Arrange and support access to education or employment, helping people move from benefits to purpose
  • Liaise with social workers, healthcare practitioners, DWP, and other services to make sure your people get what they need
  • Promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and de-escalate challenging situations when they happen

Why you will love working here

  • £15,025.92 per year, plus £250 when you finish induction and another £250 after you pass probation - that's £500 welcome bonus
  • Part-time hours (20 a week, Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm) that fit around life, not the other way around
  • Real autonomy: you'll manage your own caseload and see the direct impact of your work week after week
  • Support to gain or progress your NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification while you work
  • Join a team that's been doing this for 25 years and has genuinely supported over 24,000 people to transform their lives

Is this you?

  • You've got real experience supporting (not nursing or medical care, but genuine support) people with complex needs to move towards independence
  • You hold a full driving licence and you own a car insured for business use. You're prepared to travel across Cheshire regularly
  • You understand safeguarding: you know what vulnerable adults and children need and how to protect them
  • You're computer literate, comfortable with Microsoft 365, and happy to write clear reports and keep records
  • You're working towards or hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or willing to work towards it)
  • You've got genuine interpersonal skills: you listen, you're patient, and people trust you
