Most care jobs lock you into rigid rotas that don't fit real life. This one doesn't. We're looking for warm, reliable people to work casual shifts across our children's homes in Crewe, fitting around whatever else you've got going on - whether that's another job, study, family or your own interests

You'll be working in established two-to-six-bed homes and specialist complex-care settings, supporting children and young people aged 5-18. Every shift matters: you're the calm, consistent adult who helps create a safe and nurturing space, supports them through routines and emotional moments, and shows them what reliability actually looks like

The team here is genuinely therapeutic and child-centred. You won't be thrown in alone: full induction and training happens before you work independently, and you've got a team around you who actually know what they're doing. The homes run on care plans, risk assessments and clear safeguarding - so you know exactly what you're doing and why

Whether you're already in care, education, youth work or something else people-focused, this is a proper chance to build valuable residential childcare experience without sacrificing the flexibility you need. And as the service grows, there are genuine opportunities to step into regular contracted hours if you want them

What you will be doing

  • Help create and maintain a safe, warm and nurturing home environment day to day
  • Support children with routines, meals, activities, education and appointments
  • Build positive, professional relationships and support young people through emotional distress and challenging moments
  • Follow care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures, and complete clear, factual records and handovers
  • Work calmly and consistently as part of the home's team across evenings, weekends and school holidays where possible

Why you will love working here

  • £13.95-£14.45 per hour, plus £45 sleep-in payments - genuine flexibility to choose when you work around your life
  • Full induction, training and support before you work independently, so you're never thrown in the deep end
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme from day one for you and eligible adults in your household
  • A chance to gain or build real residential childcare experience in a friendly, child-centred team environment
  • Opportunities to move into regular contracted hours as the service grows, if that's what you want

Is this you?

  • Are you calm, patient and professional under pressure, with the ability to maintain safe boundaries?
  • Do you have experience in care, education, youth work or another people-focused role, or the warmth and willingness to learn on the job?
  • Can you be reliable and flexible, available for a variety of shifts, and comfortable with written records and safeguarding responsibilities?
  • Are you a full UK driving licence holder?
