Most support worker jobs feel like you're treading water, underpaid and under-valued. This role is different: you'll work 25 hours a week with young people aged 16-18 in supported accommodation, where your genuine care for independence and life skills actually transforms lives. And you'll be treated like you matter, paid fairly, and backed with real career development from day one

Picture this: you're working alongside young people who are learning to stand on their own two feet. Some days you're helping someone budge their confidence about employment, the next you're guiding them through managing money or cooking a proper meal. These are the moments that stick with you. This isn't routine care - it's about building trust, watching someone realise they're capable, and knowing you had a hand in that

The home attracts people who genuinely believe in young people with complex needs and emotional challenges. Your team understands that some days are harder than others, and you're never alone managing a situation. You'll work collaboratively with external professionals and families, which means you're part of something bigger: a joined-up effort to help each young person thrive

This provider invests in you. They cover your Enhanced DBS check outright. They offer QCF qualifications to unlock your career progression - not in five years, but now. You'll get a comprehensive paid induction so you actually know what you're doing from week one. And because they're expanding across the region, there are real pathways to grow if you want them

What you will be doing

  • Provide day-to-day support to young people aged 16-18 in a semi-independent living environment, helping them develop the confidence and skills to move towards full independence
  • Guide and support young people with education, employment, finances, and daily living skills through positive, practical mentoring
  • Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with each young person, understanding their individual needs and challenges
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and contribute to support plans that track progress and inform the wider team
  • Work closely with external professionals, families, and internal colleagues to ensure joined-up, consistent support
  • Safeguard young people's welfare and respond calmly and confidently to challenging situations when they arise

Why you will love working here

  • Earn £13.45-£14.05 per hour for 25 hours a week, with pay that rises as your experience and qualifications grow - this is genuine Real Living Wage employment
  • Your Enhanced DBS check is fully paid by the provider, along with any renewals, so that barrier is gone
  • Access QCF qualifications to progress your career and open doors to higher roles - you're not stuck in the same job forever
  • Enjoy Blue Light Card discounts on holidays, high street shopping, and gifts; an Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support; Circle membership for wellbeing, exercise advice, and everyday savings; and a matched pension contribution up to 3%
  • Get paid in full during a comprehensive induction programme, plus access a Cycle to Work scheme (save up to 42% on a new bike), Long Service Awards, and a £500 referral bonus if you bring talented people to the team

Is this you?

  • Are you 21 or over and hold a valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle? You'll need both for this role
  • Have you worked with young people, in care, or in the child sector before? Experience here is preferred - but what matters most is genuine passion
  • Are you someone who stays calm under pressure, builds trust easily, and can manage challenging behaviour with empathy and patience?
  • Do you communicate clearly - both talking and writing - and work well as part of a team?
  • A Level 3 qualification is preferred but not essential - we'll help you work towards it
