Most Registered Manager roles ask you to improve what's already broken. This one is different: you'll build something from scratch, set the culture from day one, and lead a team in a brand-new children's home for 8 - 17 year olds with emotional and behavioural needs. If you've got the experience, the vision and the drive to shape excellence rather than inherit chaos, read on

You'll walk into a blank canvas. No established patterns to unpick, no legacy issues to fix, no teams already burned out by poor previous leadership. Instead, you get to design the home's entire culture, recruit staff who share your values, and build systems that actually work from day one. That's rare. That's powerful

Your team will look to you as the architect of their working environment. You'll set the tone for how children and young people are supported, how safeguarding is embedded, how care is delivered. The leadership team behind you is ambitious and supportive - they're not here to micromanage; they're here to back your expertise and help you succeed

Within your first year, you'll oversee care planning, risk assessments, and safeguarding for children with real, complex needs. You'll work with local authorities, schools and health professionals to join up their care. You'll manage the budget and rota, ensure Ofsted compliance, and genuinely change how these young people experience stability and safety. That's the work that matters

What you will be doing

  • Lead and develop your team to deliver outstanding care; recruit, train and support staff who share your vision for this home
  • Ensure the home meets all the home Regulations and Ofsted Quality Standards, working towards a minimum Good rating
  • Create and maintain safe, nurturing, and stable systems across care planning, risk assessment, and safeguarding processes
  • Manage budgets, staff rotas, and day-to-day operational procedures so the home runs smoothly
  • Liaise with local authorities, schools, health professionals and other partners to co-ordinate support for each young person

Why you will love working here

  • Full autonomy to build a new home and shape its culture from launch - no inherited dysfunction to fight
  • A supportive leadership team that backs your expertise and invests in your success
  • The rare chance to make a measurable difference in vulnerable children's lives whilst establishing care standards that will last
  • Competitive salary with performance-based progression as the home grows and you prove impact
  • Work with an ambitious provider who's serious about quality and supports their managers properly

Is this you?

  • You hold a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for the provider, or you're actively working towards one
  • You've got a minimum of 2 years' management experience in a children's residential setting - you've actually done this work before and you know what good looks like
  • You understand the home Regulations, Quality Standards, safeguarding law and Ofsted requirements thoroughly enough to embed them into practice, not just tick boxes
  • You're ready to apply for (or already hold) an Enhanced DBS check
  • You've got genuine leadership presence: you communicate clearly, you're organised, and people follow you because they trust your direction
