Most manager roles ask you to keep the ship steady. This one asks you to build it. We're recruiting a Registered Manager to lead an established children's home in South Reddish whilst simultaneously overseeing the opening of a brand new 2 bed service next door - a rare chance to shape culture from the ground up, lead a growing team, and prove your vision works in real time

You'll be managing care for young people who've experienced trauma and neglect, helping them rebuild safety and stability in a home that actually feels like one. This isn't institutional care: it's a compassionate, nurturing environment right in their local community, where troubled teenagers get a genuine chance to thrive. Every shift matters. Every decision compounds. And you'll see the results

The team you lead will look to you not just for direction but for example. You'll supervise less experienced staff, take the complex safeguarding cases personally, and model the kind of care standards that make young people believe adults can be trusted again. This is where good leadership becomes transformational leadership

Then there's the expansion. As the new 2 bed home opens next door, you'll shape its systems, culture and team from day one. You'll implement policies that work, establish networks with statutory and voluntary agencies, and prove you can scale excellence. For a manager hungry to grow, this is the role that lets you build something lasting

What you will be doing

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day running of an established 2 bed children's home whilst overseeing the setup and opening of a newly converted 2 bed service in the adjoining property
  • Create a safe, nurturing environment that meets the physical, health and social needs of young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties; supervise staff in delivering high-quality, compassionate care aligned to Quality care standards
  • Take primary responsibility for complex cases and safeguarding issues: assess risk, develop care plans, undertake key working and direct work that helps young people achieve optimal outcomes
  • Supervise, appraise and develop your team through positive leadership; support less experienced staff to work effectively and maintain professional standards
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems, policies and procedures; establish and maintain productive relationships with schools, statutory agencies and the wider community
  • Champion educational opportunities and achievements for the young people; promote a positive image of the service through clear communication, professional presentation and factual reporting

Why you will love working here

  • £49,953 per year (£25.61 per hour) plus sleep-in allowance of £107.60 per shift, weekend hours paid at time and a quarter (£32.01), and on-call payments (£40 weekdays, £80 weekends, £120 bank holidays)
  • 27 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, rising to 30 days after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years; generous pension scheme with up to 7% company contributions and up to 6x salary death in service benefit
  • Occupational sick pay, enhanced maternity, paternity and adoptive leave, and family-friendly policies that actually work
  • Comprehensive training and development opportunities, apprenticeship qualifications, long service awards, and Blue Light card eligibility; you'll work for a real living wage employer and have access to a rewards and discount platform
  • A refer-a-friend scheme, wellbeing support across the organisation, and the rare privilege of building something new whilst leading something established - growth for you and for the young people you serve

Is this you?

  • You hold a Registered Manager's Award (Level 5 RMA Children) and have completed QCF Level 3/4 CFYP or equivalent NVQ in Children's Residential care
  • You have significant residential childcare experience and a sound, practical understanding of Ofsted regulations and what inspectors actually look for
  • You're a leader who gets results from your team: you demonstrate effective leadership, achieve service delivery to national standards, and have genuine passion for developing better services for young people
  • You have a track record of continuing professional development and experience working with statutory and voluntary agencies; you're organised, flexible and communicate clearly
  • You hold a current clean driving licence and have the right to work in the UK (UK-based candidates only; we are not part of a visa sponsorship scheme)
