Most care home management roles leave you drowning in spreadsheets and stretched across understaffed teams. This is different. We're looking for an experienced Registered Manager to lead a thriving 91-bed nursing and residential home where you'll actually have the support, autonomy and professional respect to make real improvements in residents' lives while building something you're proud of
Picture this: you walk into a well-organised home where staff know exactly what they're doing because you've built a culture of training, clarity and genuine professional development. Your team trusts you. Residents and their families see the difference in care quality week to week. That's the kind of leadership impact this role is built for
The home is beautifully located near Newmarket's market town centre, with easy access to Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. It's the kind of place where you can actually attract and retain good people because the setting itself helps. You'll manage a full operational P&L, drive occupancy through marketing initiative and strategic planning, and report to leadership who actually listens to what you need to succeed
This isn't a survival job. You'll have genuine autonomy to lead day-to-day operations, shape your team's development, and execute the improvements that turn a good home into one that consistently exceeds CQC standards. The salary backs this up: £70,000 starting, plus a generous annual bonus and long-term benefits that recognise your commitment
What you will be doing
- Lead daily operational management of a 91-bed nursing and residential home, ensuring care quality, safeguarding and CQC compliance across all services
- Build and lead a professional, well-trained staff team through recruitment, induction, ongoing development and motivation; manage team performance and retention strategically
- Drive occupancy and reputation through marketing initiatives, relationship-building with healthcare partners and stakeholders, and execution of action plans that grow the home's reach
- Manage the home's profit and loss within budget parameters; make commercial decisions that balance quality care with operational sustainability
- Ensure day-to-day compliance with CQC standards, business governance, health and safety, and all operational policies; champion continuous improvement across all areas
Why you will love working here
- £70,000 starting salary plus a genuinely generous annual bonus that rewards your impact
- Real professional development support and the autonomy to lead significant operational decisions
- Employee of the Month recognition, long-service awards and Blue Light Card benefits
- The chance to manage a well-positioned home with access to market town amenities and easy links to larger regional centres
- Refer a Friend scheme: get rewarded when you bring talented people into the team
Is this you?
- You have a proven track record managing care homes rated CQC Good or higher, with real evidence of turning round services or maintaining excellence under pressure
- You hold a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care, or equivalent professional qualification (Registered Nurse certification is valued but not essential)
- You're compassionate but assertive: you inspire teams, see what needs to change, and have the backbone to make it happen without losing sight of residents' actual needs
- You can manage large teams, delegate effectively, communicate clearly with staff and external partners, and work independently while maintaining accountability to senior leadership
- You have hands-on experience building occupancy through marketing, stakeholder engagement and strategic planning; you understand the commercial side of care
