Most deputy manager roles in residential care ask you to do everything except feel valued for doing it. This is different. We're looking for someone who can lead a warm, structured team caring for children with complex needs and emotional difficulties, and we're willing to invest properly in your growth, your wellbeing, and your career
Picture this: you walk into a home where children who've had rough starts are learning to trust again. Your leadership sets the tone. You're not just managing rotas and paperwork, you're shaping a place where every day feels a bit more extraordinary than the last. You work alongside a team that actually supports each other because that's how you've set it up, and when your team thrives, the children do too
You'll report directly to the Registered Manager, but you're the one who makes the daily magic happen. You're embedded in care planning, staff supervision, and the recruitment of people who get it. You're the person who catches problems early, celebrates wins with the team, and knows exactly where each child is in their journey. This isn't admin work disguised as leadership, it's real impact
The home invests in people. They'll fund your QCF qualifications, support your professional development, and actually listen when you have ideas. You get 5.6 weeks' annual leave, a proper pension scheme with matched contributions, and real wellbeing support through their Employee Assistance Programme. This is a place that believes when their team thrives, everything works better
What you will be doing
- Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, including staff management, care delivery, and all administrative tasks
- Lead, supervise and develop the care team, setting clear expectations and leading by example across everything from practice standards to how you all spend time with the children
- Oversee care planning, implement individualised support plans, and ensure all documentation is accurate and up to date
- Monitor the quality of care being delivered, spot where things can improve, and make those changes happen
- Recruit and train new staff members, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and fit the values of the home
- Ensure the home stays compliant with all relevant legislation, regulations and company policies, keeping everyone safe
Why you will love working here
- Competitive hourly pay of £15.45-£16.05 per hour (or £15.95-£16.55 if you're already L5 qualified), reflective of your experience and recognised as Real Living Wage
- 5.6 weeks' annual leave including 8 public holidays, plus a matched pension contribution of up to 3% to help you build your future
- Your Enhanced DBS check is fully paid for by the home, along with any renewals you'll need
- Access to funded QCF qualifications and genuine career development support, so you can progress and grow
- Comprehensive wellbeing support including a confidential Employee Assistance Programme, Circle membership for health and discounts, and a Blue Light Card for savings across high street retailers and experiences
- Paid-for full induction and introductory programme to set you up for success from day one, plus a referral bonus scheme (£500 split with a colleague if you bring talented people in)
Is this you?
- Is this you: you've got proven experience in a similar deputy or management role within healthcare or social care
- You hold or are working towards NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children and Young People (or equivalent relevant qualification)
- You're a natural leader with strong communication skills, and you can motivate and inspire a team to do their best work
- You're organised and detail-focused, with solid IT skills including experience using care management systems
- You hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence and have access to a vehicle, as this is essential
- You have a genuinely compassionate approach to the children, families, and colleagues you work with, and you actually want to make their lives better
