Most management roles in residential care ask you to juggle staffing, budgets and safeguarding with your hands tied behind your back. This is different. This is a genuine leadership opportunity where your decisions shape the culture of the home, your team trusts you to have their back, and the young people actually feel the difference you make every single day
You'll work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, which means you can lead without burning out on waking nights and sleep-ins. That stability lets you show up as the best version of yourself: the manager who knows every staff member's strengths, who can spot when a young person needs extra support before it becomes a crisis, and who builds a home where people actually want to come to work
The role sits you at the heart of everything. You'll chair statutory reviews and in-house reviews for all the young people, meaning you're the one shaping their plans and celebrating their progress. You'll run weekly staff meetings and supervisions, attend monthly seniors meetings and weekly manager forums, and have real autonomy over rotas, budgets and day-to-day decisions. When incidents happen, you're the calm voice on the phone; when staff need guidance, you're the one they call
This provider invests in keeping managers sharp. You'll arrange and lead training programmes, stay current with national childcare policy, and contribute to your own professional development alongside supporting your team's. The home runs annual holidays and activities for the young people - you'll oversee the lot, including full risk assessments. It's the kind of role where your leadership is visible, valued and genuinely needed
What you will be doing
- Manage the weekly budget, petty cash and all financial administration for the home
- Run rotas and manage staff annual leave, plus participate in and organise individual supervision sessions
- Chair and facilitate statutory and in-house reviews for all young people, and support them to participate in their own decision making
- Lead weekly staff meetings, attend monthly seniors meetings and weekly manager forums, offering guidance and constructive feedback to promote a professional approach
- Oversee all house activities including annual holidays and outings, with full risk assessments, and ensure young people and staff stay safe in the community
- Be on-call to give phone advice if problems arise, and attend the home in emergencies; keep staff updated on procedural changes and promote open communication
