Most Registered Manager roles come with box-ticking, insufficient autonomy, and a team stretched too thin. This one gives you real leadership of a Good/Outstanding home, genuine buy-in from above, and the staffing and training budget to build something you're genuinely proud of. If you've got 2-3 years managing care teams and the qualifications to back it, you're exactly who we need
You'll lead a children's home in Camden where young people aged 11-17 with complex needs and challenging behaviour actually turn their lives around, not just pass through. Your role is to design the environment where that happens: the daily routines, the staff culture, the therapeutic approach, the way every person in that home feels seen. You're not just managing a service; you're building a space that genuinely works
The team respects you because you're present. You're there in the evenings and weekends when it matters most, you know the young people by name and story, and you mentor your staff to see what you see in these kids. You arrange your own rota, which means you own how that happens. You're backed by monthly clinical and professional supervision, access to therapeutic support, and a leadership team that gets what the job actually demands
You'll see the impact in real time: young people who arrive dysregulated start to trust adults again; staff who felt lost find direction and confidence; Ofsted reports that reflect the work you've built. And yes, you're rewarded for it: bonuses for Outstanding (£3,000) and Good (£1,500) ratings, a £300 monthly occupancy bonus, a car allowance, and 32 days' holiday that rises to 33 after three years
What you will be doing
- Deliver high-quality care across the home and be accountable for every child and young person's outcomes; lead staff in embedding the home's values and ethos in how they work every single day
- Organise your own work rota to ensure appropriate staff presence at all times, including evenings, weekends and nights; manage staffing schedules to meet the real needs of the young people, not just paperwork
- Supervise, mentor and develop your team; facilitate care-focused training; ensure every member of staff is capable and confident in what they're doing
- Plan strategically for the home's development; work with external agencies and professionals to access the right support and services for each young person
- Ensure the home meets Ofsted and the home Regulations standards; maintain knowledge of the Children's Act 1989, Care Standards Act 2000 and all safeguarding procedures
Why you will love working here
- Up to £61,720 per annum plus car allowance/company car, so you can actually live near the work
- £300 monthly occupancy bonus plus Ofsted performance bonuses (£3,000 for Outstanding, £1,500 for Good)
- 32 days' holiday including bank holidays (rising to 33 days after three years), workplace pension, and an employee discount scheme with 740+ retailers
- Monthly clinical and professional supervision plus access to therapeutic support, because you can't lead others through this work without proper support yourself
- A work phone provided and a team that respects the role enough to back you properly
Is this you?
- You hold or are working towards NVQ Level 5 in Management, and have NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Caring for Children and Young People
- You've got 2-3 years' solid experience managing care staff and leading teams, ideally in a residential or children's setting
- You're sharp on written and verbal communication, you lead by example, and you genuinely want to understand and develop your team
- You know your stuff on safeguarding, Children's Act principles and Care Standards; you're comfortable being the person Ofsted speaks to
- You're willing to work flexibly including evenings, weekends and nights to meet the home's needs, and you're ready to arrange your own rota
