Most deputy manager roles in residential care are about firefighting: reacting to crises, covering gaps, keeping the ship afloat. This one is different. You'll step into a leadership position where you genuinely shape the culture, train the team, and directly improve the lives of the young people in your care - with the full support of a registered manager who wants you to succeed
Picture yourself walking into the home each morning knowing you're not just managing a rota or ticking compliance boxes. You're the person who decides how this place feels: whether it's warm or clinical, whether young people feel seen or processed. You'll run the day-to-day operation - quality of care, recruitment, team communication, premises, finances - but more importantly, you'll be the Deputy Manager who young people and staff actually trust. That's rare. That's powerful
You'll identify what each young person needs, sit down with their families and the professionals around them, and build personalised care plans that actually work. You'll supervise your team, carry out regular supervisions, and create the kind of environment where people want to show up. You'll handle admissions - welcoming new residents, making sure they feel safe from day one. You'll manage medication, maintain records, stay across health and safety, fire checks, infection control. It's the full picture of leadership in a residential setting
This isn't a role where you'll be left to figure it out alone. You'll work closely with the registered manager, attend the training and supervision you need, and develop yourself alongside the home. If you've got experience in residential or children's services and you're ready to step up from frontline care into genuine management - where your decisions shape culture and outcomes - this is the move
What you will be doing
- Lead the day-to-day running of the home: oversee care standards and quality, manage recruitment and training, maintain effective communication with the team, and handle premises and financial matters
- Assess young people's individual needs alongside families and professionals, develop and implement personalised care plans, and ensure every interaction is warm, supportive and dignified
- Supervise care delivery, administer medication safely, maintain accurate records, and check that all legal and statutory requirements are met (Health and Safety, HACCP, COSHH, infection control, fire safety, risk assessments)
- Recruit suitable staff members, facilitate inductions, identify training needs for the whole team, and carry out regular supervisions to create a friendly, supportive workplace
- Welcome new residents, complete admission paperwork and records, facilitate tours for prospective young people, and liaise with families, education staff, and external professionals
- Stay up to date with the home Regulations and Quality Standards, prepare for Ofsted inspections, and champion safeguarding across the home
Why you will love working here
- Full-time permanent role with genuine leadership responsibility - this is a real step up, not a sideways move
- Work closely with an experienced registered manager who'll support your development and give you the autonomy to shape the home's culture
- Access to the training, supervision and professional development you need to grow into this role and beyond
- Be part of a team where compliance and care quality are taken seriously, and where your work directly improves outcomes for vulnerable young people
