Most deputy manager roles in care feel like you're drowning in bureaucracy and politics, stuck between the home manager and an overworked floor team with no real autonomy. This is different: you'll lead a 89-bed service where your clinical expertise and people management actually shape how care happens every single day, and where the home invests in your professional growth
Picture yourself walking into a home where residents have just returned from a shopping trip to Wantage Shopping Centre, buzzing about what they've chosen. You're the person who makes sure their care is personalised, dignified and built to last. As deputy manager, you're not pushing papers in an office: you're on the floor supervising your nursing team, spotting where they need confidence-building or extra training, and modelling the professional standards that ripple through every interaction with every resident
You'll lead the shift team, which means real clinical leadership. Your NMC pin isn't just a credential here: it's your ticket to hands-on supervision of the registered nurses, ensuring they stay sharp and competent to meet complex resident needs. You'll contribute to staff training, audit how the service actually performs against Gold Care standards, and take corrective action when something isn't working. This isn't ticking boxes: it's continuous improvement that residents notice
The home benefits from strong community connections and active engagement with local attractions. You'll help maintain occupancy, liaise with maintenance and external professionals, and represent the service to stakeholders - doctors, social care professionals, relatives, the regulator and the local community. You're building relationships and protecting a reputation for excellent care. At the same time, you're developing yourself: mandatory training, professional development opportunities, and a manager who values your growth
