Most deputy manager roles in residential care feel like you're firefighting every shift, managing staff who are barely trained and young people who've had their trust broken too many times. This is different. You'll lead a team that actually knows what trauma-informed care looks like, support young people building real futures, and work somewhere that invests in you the same way it invests in them

This home has spent over 110 years proving that when you create a truly safe, nurturing place and you give young people consistent, skilled adults around them, their whole future changes. Your job as Deputy Manager is to make sure that happens every single day. You'll mentor a team of Residential Care Workers who are genuinely committed, oversee the care planning and case management that turns each young person's life around, and step into the Registered Manager's shoes whenever needed - knowing you have the support and the framework to do it well

You'll be leading people who care about what they do. Your team will be managing complex emotional and behavioural needs, yes, but they won't be doing it alone or in chaos. You'll be the person who develops them, spots their potential, keeps them grounded in trauma-informed practice, and helps them grow into better practitioners. That kind of leadership changes people's careers

The home runs a structured rota - including 2 sleep-ins per week - and you'll be hands-on: accompanying young people to activities, driving them to appointments, building those relationships that matter. This isn't a desk job. It's about presence, consistency and showing young people that adults can actually be reliable

What you will be doing

  • Lead, mentor and develop the team of Residential Care Workers, spotting potential and supporting their growth
  • Oversee care planning, case management and individual needs assessment for every young person in the home
  • Step into day-to-day running of the home in the Registered Manager's absence, managing budgets, policies and regulatory standards
  • Ensure safeguarding, behaviour support and quality care are consistently high, even under pressure
  • Communicate with local authorities, families and other professionals to advocate for each young person's needs
  • Drive young people to appointments and activities as part of your working week, building trust through consistent presence

Why you will love working here

  • £39,357 - £47,821 depending on experience, plus payment for 2 sleep-ins per week (39-hour or 45-hour contract options)
  • 28 days' holiday rising to 30 after 3 years, so you actually get proper time to rest
  • Funded career development and qualifications, because this provider invests in people who stay
  • Health cashback scheme covering you and up to four children, pension with up to 5% employer contribution, Employee Assistance Programme, cycle-to-work scheme and will writing service
  • A workplace that genuinely lives its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion - where the team reflects the young people you support

Is this you?

  • You hold a Level 3 Diploma for the sector (or equivalent recognised qualification) and you know what quality actually looks like
  • You've supervised or led staff in a children's residential setting before - you understand what it takes to build a good team
  • You have real experience supporting young people with complex emotional or behavioural needs, and you don't panic when things get challenging
  • You're confident with case management: you can prepare care plans, contribute to reviews, and track what's working
  • You've handled budgets or financial processes and you're comfortable with the practical, administrative side of running a home
  • You're trauma-informed in your thinking, calm under pressure, and genuinely committed to building trusting relationships
