Most Deputy Manager roles ask you to choose between real leadership and real care. This one doesn't. We're looking for someone who can step into a thriving residential home on the Isle of Wight, lead a team you'll genuinely respect, and spend your days making a tangible difference in residents' lives, not just moving paper around
Picture yourself walking into a well-run home where staff trust your judgment and residents know you. You're not hiding in an office. You're on the floor during shifts, actively involved in care planning, spotting what works and what needs to change. You deputise for the Manager when they're away, which means you've got real autonomy and you're being tested and developed every single week
This role gives you something rare: the chance to build your leadership muscles on something that matters. You'll supervise key workers through proper care planning, manage performance issues with support, and mentor staff on dementia care. You'll work with the multidisciplinary team, push for policy improvements, and see the direct result of your decisions in how residents are cared for
The team here is friendly and approachable, and they're serious about your development. You get a proper induction, study support, funding for relevant qualifications, and a genuine pathway to salary enhancement when you achieve them. On the Isle of Wight, with on-site parking, 5.6 weeks holiday, The Peoples Pension, and paid breaks built in, you're not sacrificing your life to do good work
What you will be doing
- Lead shifts actively, supervise key workers, and ensure care plans are completed within 3 days of admission and reviewed monthly as a minimum
- Monitor staff performance on attendance, conduct and behaviour, taking necessary action to manage issues fairly and constructively
- Provide hands-on physical and personal care when needed, answer call bells promptly, and ensure policies and procedures are being followed
- Liaise with the Home Manager on procedure changes, work with the multidisciplinary team, and co-ordinate referrals to District Nursing for dressings and tissue viability
- Mentor care staff on dementia care in collaboration with the dementia link worker, promote good practice across the team, and deputise for the Manager during absences
- Use the PCS care planning system to ensure all assessments and care plans meet timescales and quality standards
Why you will love working here
- Salary of 30k depending on your experience, with a transparent pathway to enhancement when you gain further qualifications
- 5.6 weeks holiday a year (including bank holidays), paid breaks, and The Peoples Pension Scheme so your future is secure
- A structured induction, ongoing training, and real study support and funding to progress your qualifications and your career
- On-site parking, uniforms provided, and a superb working environment in a well-run home where leadership actually means something
- A friendly, approachable team who respect competence and a role where you deputise for the Manager, so you're genuinely being developed for the next step
Is this you?
- You have senior care experience in an elderly residential setting, ideally as a Senior Carer or Team Leader
- You hold a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (or you're actively working towards it and this role accelerates that)
- You understand Health and Safety, Adult Protection and safeguarding, and you work with policies and procedures as your baseline, not an obstacle
- You can lead without ego: you're comfortable getting hands-on with care, supervising colleagues, and learning from the Manager above you
