Most deputy manager roles in residential care feel like glorified shift cover, leaving you frustrated and undervalued. But this is different: you'll be genuinely leading a team, shaping how a home operates, and working alongside a Registered Manager who actually wants your input. If you're ready to step into real leadership that makes a measurable difference to children's lives, keep reading

Every day you'll walk into a home where structure, safety and genuine care aren't just words on a policy document. You'll be the person the team looks to when things matter: you'll help shape how safeguarding is embedded in everything the home does, how staff interact with the young people, and how the home continuously improves. That's leadership with real teeth

You'll work closely with the Registered Manager on Ofsted compliance, preparing the home for inspection, and building the systems that make sure nothing slips through the cracks. You'll own quality assurance, flag issues early, and be part of the planning that keeps the home moving towards 'Good' or 'Outstanding'. This isn't box-ticking. It's the work that actually protects children

The setting supports the kind of work-life balance that actually exists: Monday to Friday, no weekends, flexible shift times, and time off in lieu so you can recover when you need it. You'll have genuine progression opportunities, a performance bonus, and access to the Bright Exchange programme. Team days mean you're building real relationships with colleagues, not just clocking in alone

What you will be doing

  • Support the Registered Manager in ensuring the home operates in full compliance with the home (England) Regulations 2015 and all relevant Quality Standards
  • Help lead and develop the team, setting the tone for safeguarding culture and ensuring staff understand and follow local authority and national safeguarding procedures without exception
  • Maintain detailed safeguarding records, spot patterns, escalate concerns appropriately, and ensure the home's monitoring and quality assurance systems work as they should
  • Contribute actively to Ofsted preparation: help shape action plans, gather evidence of continuous improvement, and ensure the home is genuinely ready for inspection
  • Take ownership of quality assurance systems, work with the Independent Reviewing Officer and Registered Manager to ensure nothing important gets missed

Why you will love working here

  • A genuine Monday to Friday role with no weekends: work-life balance that actually works
  • Performance bonus and time off in lieu (TOIL) so your effort is properly recognised
  • Access to the Bright Exchange programme, Blue Light Card discounts, and regular team days that build real relationships
  • Real progression opportunities: this role is a genuine stepping stone, not a dead end
  • Flexible shift times so you can shape your week around what matters

Is this you?

  • You've worked in residential care or a similar safeguarding-focused role and you genuinely understand what Ofsted expects from a home
  • You know how to lead a team without being heavy-handed: you care about getting the best from people and you're not afraid to have difficult conversations when safeguarding is on the line
  • You're organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable with compliance and regulation - not because you love paperwork, but because you know it protects children
  • You've got the energy to support a Registered Manager without needing them to manage you, and you're ready to grow into more responsibility over time
