Most deputy manager roles in residential care feel like you're firefighting all day with no time to actually lead. This is different. You'll step into a role where you genuinely develop staff, shape how young people are supported, and build a career that matters - all in a place that invests in your progression from day one
Picture this: you're leading a small, tight-knit team through a shift. One of the young people you support has had a breakthrough moment - something clicked because of the consistency and care your team gave them. That's the feeling this role delivers, day after day. You're not just managing rotas; you're directly shaping outcomes for some of the most vulnerable young people in the area, many living with emotional and behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated needs
What sets this home apart is how they treat their staff. This isn't a provider that hires and leaves you to sink or swim. They've built a proper career pathway here - comprehensive induction, ongoing training commitment, and genuine support for you to progress to Level 5 Diploma qualification while you work. Your wellbeing matters too: they offer wellbeing support, a cycle to work scheme, a pension, and access to exclusive reward and discount schemes
You'll be part of Children's Services, a team that sees you as someone capable of growing into a bigger role if you want it. The environment is collaborative, not cut-throat. Resilience, communication and organisation are valued because they're essential - not buzzwords. If you're the kind of person who finds deep fulfilment in building people up and seeing young people turn their lives around, this is where that works
What you will be doing
- Lead and support a small staff team through their shifts, ensuring consistency in the care and support given to the young people in the home
- Work directly with the young people, building relationships and understanding their individual needs, triggers and progress
- Maintain and update care plans, ensuring all critical information is documented and communicated to the wider team
- Supervise day-to-day operations of the home, managing rotas, health and safety compliance, and reporting to the Manager
- Act as a key point of contact for staff questions and concerns, modelling the values and approach you want to see in your team
Why you will love working here
- Comprehensive induction and ongoing training commitment - you won't be left to figure it out alone
- Support to study towards Level 5 Diploma, with training provided as part of your career progression
- Pension scheme, paid-for enhanced DBS, and exclusive access to reward and discount schemes
- Wellbeing support and cycle to work scheme, because looking after your staff matters
- A genuine career pathway with a provider committed to helping you build a job for life
Is this you?
- You hold a Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People (or equivalent), and you're willing to study towards Level 5 Diploma while in post
- You have genuine experience of team leadership or supervisory responsibility - you've managed people before and you know how to get the best from them
- You hold a full UK Driving Licence (essential due to the location of the home)
- You're naturally resilient, organised and a clear communicator - you can stay calm under pressure and keep others informed
- Most importantly, you're a caring, attentive person who genuinely wants to understand young people and help them move forward
