Most care home kitchens feel like a chore, turning out the same tired meals day after day. But what if your cooking could actually brighten someone's day - where every meal you prepare is a genuine moment of connection, and your skills genuinely matter? This is a chance to bring real warmth to a home where residents still have appetite, preference and joy
Picture yourself in a kitchen that's part of a thriving community, not a production line. You're collaborating with care staff who actually value your input, gathering feedback from residents on what made them smile at lunch, and adjusting next week's menu because Mrs Chen asked for her grandmother's style of ginger chicken. The home sits in a peaceful urban setting with gardens and a real team spirit - this isn't corporate care, it's a sanctuary where people matter
You'll get to flex your culinary creativity within a structured framework: developing seasonal menus with local produce, adapting recipes for diabetic and gluten-free residents, and managing kitchen costs so every pound stretches further. You're not just cooking; you're solving real problems - understanding why Mr Ahmed needs low-sodium options, why portion control affects someone's dignity, why presentation matters when appetite is precious
The team here invests in their people. You'll have opportunities for professional development, be recognised for long-term service, and know that when you refer a friend, both of you gain. It's the kind of place where an Employee of the Month award actually means something, because the whole organisation genuinely values the work you do
What you will be doing
- Plan and prepare daily meals from the care home's menus, adapting recipes for residents with special dietary needs such as diabetic, low-sodium and gluten-free requirements

- Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment in full compliance with food safety and health regulations, monitoring equipment and reporting maintenance needs
- Manage food inventory, stock levels and ordering to keep costs effective whilst minimising waste, keeping accurate records throughout
- Engage directly with residents to understand their preferences, gather feedback on meals, and explain ingredients and preparation methods when requested
- Work closely with care staff to coordinate meal service times and address specific dietary requests, supervising and training any kitchen assistants
