Most maintenance jobs lock you into one building, one manager, one way of doing things. This role is different: you'll run your own patch across multiple children's homes and schools, managing your workload independently with a van, fuel card, and the support of a friendly team behind you. If you're a skilled tradesperson who wants autonomy, variety, and real responsibility, keep reading
Picture your week: you arrive at your first site by 8:30am with a company van full of tools. You might be hanging a door in one home, patching walls in another, or responding to an emergency repair that keeps a children's residential setting safe and functioning. You're not answering to a dozen different supervisors; you're trusted to manage your own workload and prioritise what matters most with the Home Managers and Facilities Manager guiding you. The van, fuel card, phone and tools are all provided. You work 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, and every site is within an hour's drive from your home
This isn't about being a jack-of-all-trades doing shoddy work. You'll carry out joinery to a high standard - door hanging, frame fitting, shelves, boarding. You'll handle minor plumbing - replacing taps, fixing leaks, fitting TRVs. You'll manage the exterior, keep the gardens tidy, decorate internally, and supervise the bigger jobs that need specialist contractors. When emergencies hit - boarding up windows, replacing locks - you're the one who responds. You're maintaining homes where vulnerable children live, and your work directly supports their safety and wellbeing
You'll be part of a growing portfolio of services. You'll attend training as required, manage your monthly spend, and keep meticulous records on Trackplan. You maintain the van and the tools you've been given. It's real work, real responsibility, and real autonomy - the kind of role where skilled tradespeople thrive because they're trusted
